Workshops

Media Basic Training

Course Objectives

Upon completion of Sutherland Weston’s media basic training workshop participants will:

  1. Develop positive media relations;
  2. Identify successful, creative, positive company/organization stories to pitch to local and regional media;
  3. Understand the basics for handling media interview for broadcast and print, and for both taped and live broadcast interviews;
  4. Gain a general understanding of issue management and crisis communication.

Curriculum

Sutherland Weston’s Basic Training is customized for each organization with regard to their specific needs and concerns. However the basic curriculum remains the same.

Our instructors encourage participants to share their own experiences with the media and interject questions whenever they arise.

Along with participant manuals, the workshop includes on-camera interview simulations and can be customized even further to include key message development and issue management strategizing.

Scheduling

At Sutherland Weston, we want our instructors to be able to personally connect with each participant. And we know that participants expect to have quick and easy access to the instructor. More than 15 participants per session make that expectation impossible to meet. This is why we place a 15 person maximum/per instructor on all our workshops.

Due to the nature of the subject material, our instructor will remain in the classroom/conference room for at least 30 minutes following the seminar for questions.

Workshops last for approximately three hours.

Costs:

All pricing includes participant materials.

The benefit of this plan is that you receive the workshop for a lesser per employee price if the workshop is at capacity. An additional benefit is that we come prepared for a full room but do not need attendance numbers from you prior to the class.

While the cost per employee will vary with this option, if you anticipate having less than ten participants this option will save you money. However, with this option we require confirmed attendance numbers 36 hours before each scheduled workshop.
